The Short Answer
Most shingle roof replacements on a typical Northwest Arkansas home take one to two days once the crew arrives. Larger, steeper or more complex roofs can take longer, and standing seam metal roofs usually take several days.
What Affects the Timeline
- Roof size. More squares means more time.
- Pitch. Steep roofs require extra safety setup and slow the work down.
- Complexity. Valleys, dormers, skylights and chimneys all take extra detail.
- Layers and decking. Removing multiple old layers or replacing a lot of rotted decking adds time.
- Material. Metal panels are measured and ordered for your roof, and installing them takes longer than shingles.
- Weather. We don't tear off a roof with rain in the forecast. Spring storms in NWA can shift schedules.
Step by Step: Replacement Day
- Protect the property. Tarps go over landscaping, AC units and anything near the house.
- Tear-off. The old shingles and underlayment come off down to the deck.
- Deck inspection. Any soft, rotted or damaged decking gets replaced.
- Underlayment and drip edge. Water barrier goes down, with ice and water protection in valleys and around penetrations.
- Flashing. New flashing at walls, chimneys and vents, which is where most leaks start.
- Shingles and ridge. Shingles go on, then ridge caps and ventilation.
- Clean-up. Debris hauled off, and a magnet run over the yard and driveway for nails.
- Final walk-through. We check the work and go over it with you.
How to Prepare Your Home
- Move cars out of the garage and driveway
- Take pictures and fragile items off interior walls, since hammering can rattle them
- Cover items stored in the attic. Some dust will fall during tear-off
- Keep pets and kids inside or away from the work area
- Let your neighbors know it'll be noisy for a day or two
Do you need to be home? No. Plenty of our customers are at work or out of town during their install, and we keep them updated with photos.
